About the Author
The short version of my story is this…….
- I got laid-off from a job with a pharmaceutical company
- I used my severance pay to go to the greatest annual parties across the nation
- I landed a book deal, and wrote “Party Across America”
Simply put, “Party Across America” divulges every detail you need to partake in the USA’s 101 greatest annual celebrations, on a budget.
The medium sized version of my story is this…..
The idea for this book was sitting inside my head for years. I knew that my company was going to be laying me off in a matter of months. Everyone at work started scrambling and panicking. It’s a scary feeling, one that far too many people are familiar with these days.
But rather than trying to get another job in white collar America, I pursued an idea. I was sick of this idea sitting idly in my head. Luckily, Adams Media Publishing out of Boston took a chance and offered me a book deal.
As a 32 year-old without a job, with a wife and mortgage back home, and using my severance pay to fund the research, I hit the road. Truth is, I kind of went crazy during the 10 months of traveling and writing. The result is a 300 page good timer’s bible that provides every single needed to have maximum fun across the Unites States. It’s being called the celebratory version of 1000 Places To See Before You Die.
After 12,000 miles, following an asphalt zig-zag from coast to coat, a few things became clear. First, that the United States is an incredible country. Secondly, that life is short and life should be celebrated. Thirdly, nobody is thinking about money or politics at the Mermaid Parade, New Orleans Jazz Fest, The Bay to Breakers, or the Tour De Fat. There’s only people existing in the present, having a great time, blowing off steam, and making memories.
Highlights from my excursions include:
- Helping to set the Guinness Book record for the “largest bicycle parade” at the Tour De Fat in Colorado
- Running "almost nude" in the Bay to Breakers race (a.k.a. “early morning Mardi Gras”) in San Francisco
- Learning that two of the wildest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in the country take place in Butte, Montana and Savannah, Georgia. Who would’ve thought?
- Staying up all night on Gobbler’s Knob, waiting for Punxsutawney Phil to make his 6:00 a.m. Groundhog Day prediction
- Getting into a limo with 4 of the 6 Brady Bunch kids at The World’s Largest Disco in Buffalo
- Realizing that Jazz Fest in New Orleans is something that everyone should experience at least once in their lives
